Androsmane

Klassischer

What is an Androsmanen hat? The Androsmanen is a form of tricorne hat, which in most cases was made of black felt. The three peaks of the Androsmanen are created by folding up the three sides of the brim. The shape evolved from its predecessor, a wide-brimmed military hat from the 17th century, in which the front and rear brim sides were raised high. The rear side was stiff and straight, while the front was rounded and curved. Additionally, it had another side folded down and tapered slightly to a point.

This predecessor of the Androsmanen was worn by officers in the 17th century, such as the Cavaliers in Britain and the Musketeers in France. While the headwear looked stylish, it was highly impractical in practice. The broadsides of the hat caused it to slip around when riding. As a result, the brim had to be lifted to ensure a good fit or pinched to avoid obstructing vision. Consequently, the wide hat became increasingly rare in the following years. As an alternative, the Androsmane, a variation of the tricorne hat, became very popular in the early 18th century. This hat style was known as the "cocked hat" in England and the "tricorne" in France.

In history, the Androsmane served an important function as it indicated the affiliation of officers. Today, the hat serves as an accessory for costumes.
