Bajazzo Hat

What defines the Bajazzo hat? The Bajazzo hat is very tall, funnel-shaped, with its top heavily rounded. Its brim is evenly upturned. Typically, the hat is made from a soft felt material.

The origin of the name Bajazzo originally comes from Italian theatre, where a specific clown figure is referred to as "Bajazzo." In addition to the typical hat, the clown figure also wears white, extremely wide clothing with huge buttons. The face is completely white painted, with large lips painted in red. In Germany, there is the word "Bajass" in some dialects, which is derived from the Italian term Bajazzo and serves as a designation for various circus clowns.

Today, the traditional Bajazzo hat is probably extremely rare even in Italy or in the circus. However, it can still be seen in movies or historical images.
