What is a Breton hat? A hat style inspired by Breton peasant women, resembling a bowl shape. In Anglo-Saxon countries, sometimes no distinction is made between the Breton and the boater; both hats are occasionally referred to as "boater".

The Breton hat is not as strict in its form, featuring softly curved lines both in the brim and the crown.
