Leather gloves are both functional and stylish. Even people living in the prehistoric age used leather gloves to protect themselves from the cold, while in Egypt they were already considered a status symbol in Tutankhamun’s time.

It is therefore not surprising that leather gloves have evolved over the centuries and have long since established themselves as a fashion accessory to enhance any look.

A knack for style

Whether with a particularly short or long sleeve, fingerless or as mittens – leather gloves can be as different as their wearers.

While some designs are made of 100% pure leather, others have an elasticated knitted cuff. Leather gloves with woollen cuffs, on the other hand, promise a snug fit on the wrist. Driver gloves with a retro look and gloves with knitted appliqués or perforations on the back of the hand provide a vintage feel. Decorative stitching on the outside gives almost all models a personalised design.

For women, there are also elegant leather gloves with a longer sleeve, which is often decorated with buttons or beads. Men tend to favour short leather gloves. Clasps with press studs create a cool look. Alternatively, many designs have a practical slit for easy slipping on.

Gloves made from nubuck leather are the first choice for Western fans. The fine yet rough feel goes perfectly with a cowboy hat.

Leather gloves are very versatile thanks to the many advantages and properties of the different types of leather.

Driver gloves provide a secure grip on the steering wheel. As is typical for this model, the driver’s gloves have round openings on the top so that they adapt to the curvature of the hand. Who wouldn’t want to sit in a convertible, take a spin through the fresh spring air and feel the wind in their hair? Incidentally, the gloves are also ideal for your next bike tour.

If you prefer to ski down the piste instead of riding down the road, leather ski gloves are the perfect choice. The alpine designs from the Hestra brand are lined to keep your hands warm. At the same time, they ensure that you have good grip of your ski poles. There is a choice between standard 5-finger and special 3-finger gloves. Leather gloves for outdoor activities are particularly well insulated and have wind and water-repellent properties, meaning that your hands are well protected even in sub-zero temperatures.

And even operating a smartphone with leather gloves is no longer a problem these days. Many designs are especially suitable for touchscreens. This means that your fingers stay warm in winter, even when you’re on the phone.

Leather at its best

Leather gloves are made from various types of leather. Cheaper styles are usually made of cowhide, goatskin or sheepskin. These types of leather are widely available and therefore comparatively inexpensive.

Gloves made from nappa leather are somewhat more expensive in comparison. With its velvety smooth finish, full-grain leather moulds beautifully to the hand. Suede gloves, on the other hand, are more exclusive. These are made from the skin of wild animals. We offer gloves made from deer and deerskin. Velour leather is often mistakenly equated with suede owing to its slightly rough feel.

Gloves made from peccary leather are particularly delicate. This comes from the free-living South American peccary (also known as javelina or skunk pig) and is a real rarity. Peccary leather gloves offer an exceptionally good fit and freedom of movement owing to their extremely high suppleness.

How much do good leather gloves cost?

Good, branded leather gloves don’t have to be expensive, because we offer quality at an affordable price. Leather gloves can vary greatly in price depending on the material used. High-quality yet affordable styles from the Pearlwood brand are made from sheepskin and start at just €49.

More delicate gloves made from suede with a wool lining are available from €109 from the Roeckl brand. If you like it particularly exclusive and prefer peccary or suede gloves with cashmere lining, these are available from €149 from the Caridei brand.

Weather resistance and sizes

Equipped for any weather

With a little support, leather gloves can withstand any weather conditions. Leather is already a very strong and robust material by nature, but not all types of leather like rain and sun.

Some types already have water-repellent properties. Full-grain leathers such as velour leather or nubuck, and also suede, on the other hand, are sensitive to water and should be impregnated to prevent water damage. Nappa leather is also not waterproof owing to its open-pored texture. However, many of our leather gloves are already treated and explicitly labelled as water-repellent, such as those from Pearlwood or Roeckl.

Thin, unlined leather gloves are suitable for the transitional period and in summer. Leather has breathable properties and can therefore also be worn outside of winter without any problems. Fingerless or half-finger gloves are also commonly worn nowadays. Depending on the material, the gloves should be impregnated in spring and summer to protect them from UV radiation. Nubuck leather, for example, is sensitive to UV radiation and should therefore be treated additionally.

Leather is very suitable as a material for winter gloves, thanks to its insulating properties. Most designs for the cold season are usually lined. The lining of particularly fine models is often made of cashmere or other types of wool. Fleece lining also insulates well. Mittens, such as those made of lambskin from the UGG brand, keep you particularly warm.

A perfect fit for every hand

Leather gloves are available in all standard sizes. From small to oversized – we have the right leather glove for every hand! Our range includes all sizes from 6 to size 11, including half sizes. To ensure that the glove fits like a glove, please find out your correct glove size before purchase, according to our measurement instructions.

If the size determined is between two glove sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller version for gloves made of genuine leather. As genuine leather is a natural material, the gloves can still widen when worn. If the gloves do not crease on the back of the hand when the hand is stretched out, the gloves fit perfectly. Many leather gloves have a press stud buckle on the sleeve for individual size adjustment on the wrist.
