A historic peaked cap!

In the time of the Kaiser, the Admiral of the Fleet, Albert Wilhelm Heinrich, Prince of Prussia (1862-1929) wore this type of captain’s hat, and this style later found a new dignified wearer in Helmut Schmidt. From this time on they were also known as Schmidt caps. The striking features such as the oak leaf border around the high bridge and the peak edge, as well as the doubled silk cord with decorative buttons, make this cap particularly authentic and unique. A great alternative to an Elbe sailor hat.

With reinforced cap upper, satin lining and faux leather sweatband.

I like the hat very much and it met expectations in all areas apart from one:- I had carefully measured my head at 7.3/8" (inches) but when the hat arrived it was considerably too big, I could introduce my index finger between my head and the hat band.
However I have padded out the hat band so it fits (it is not the best but it will do until I find something better to pad it) but it was a little disappointing.
I didn't send the hat back because I thought I can manage with it as it is and, better to big than too small.
I will be looking for some 1/4" thick felt for example to introduce underneath the hat band, then it will be perfect.

I am Captain of a tourist passenger vessel, and choose to wear the Prinz Henry cap because it is a bona fide uniform cap dating back to the time my vessel was built (1892)
The cap is well made, looks smart, and all tourists admire it.
I have two. I keep the steel ring in one, for fine weather, and no steel ring in the rough weather cap. Without the steel ring, it pulls down further for security in wind.
