Glencheck

What is glencheck? Glencheck is a classic checkered pattern originating from Scotland. It features at least one intersecting striped pattern offset against another in a contrasting tone. The more casual the occasion, the greater the colour contrast allowed between the overlapping checks on the garment or headwear.

Originally, the pattern comes from traditional clan tartans from Scotland, which were used to distinguish individual clan members (Scottish "glen" for English "clan" and English "check" for checkered pattern). In England, the pattern is also known as Prince of Wales, in France as Prince de Galle, and in Austria as Esterhazy.
