Moire

What is moiré? Moiré is a fabric with a wavy, shiny grain. The term originates from French and roughly translates to marbling or embossing. The shimmering effect is achieved either by pressing it with a patterned roller (imitation moiré) or by unevenly overlaying two layers of ribbed base material (true moiré). Changing the overlay method creates various visual effects.

This pattern is typical, for example, in sashes or the pileolus, the skullcap worn by high-ranking clergy. Conversely, this effect may unintentionally appear in faulty image transmissions, perceived as flickering on the television screen.
