Nylon

Malia

What is nylon? Nylon is the first fully synthetic fiber, invented in 1935 by the company DuPont. The term "Nylon" is believed to be a combination of the city names New York and London, inspired by two chemists on a flight from New York to London.

This synthetic fibre is produced through a chemical process, where water, carbon, and air are arranged in long chains to form polymers, creating a stable Nylon fibre. Initially used for parachutes and toothbrushes due to its robust nature, Nylon gained popularity in the textile industry with the introduction of fine ladies' stockings in 1938. Today, Nylon is valued for its strength and tear resistance, making it versatile in various applications. It's also favoured in headwear for its breathable and waterproof qualities, ensuring comfort.

Cleaning Nylon textiles should be done in the washing machine at a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius with a mild detergent, followed by air drying to avoid shape distortion. Due to its sensitivity to heat, it's important to follow the temperature guidelines provided by manufacturers to prevent alterations in form.
