Satin

Satin

What is satin? Satin is the term for a glossy fabric in satin weave. The fabric has a shiny upper side and a matte underside. Preferably, the fabric is made from silk, viscose, or polyester, as these fibres enhance the fabric's wet glossy appearance. However, satin can also be made from cotton, wool, or nylon. Depending on the material, satin can be more affordable or slightly more expensive. The intensity of the shine varies.

Characteristics of the fabric are its cooling, smooth, and skin-friendly properties. In addition to outerwear and underwear, it is also preferred as a lining fabric for coats, hats, etc., especially since the smooth surface facilitates slipping in.

When caring for satin, it depends on the fabric composition. While cotton satin can be treated like regular cotton textiles and machine-washed at 40 to 60 degrees, a gentler wash cycle at 30 degrees is recommended for synthetic satin.
