Velvet

Paisley

What is velvet? Velvet is a luxurious, short-fibered fabric. In the past, velvet fabrics were mostly made from silk, but nowadays, cotton or synthetic fibres are popular for production. The characteristic soft texture and shiny appearance of velvet are achieved through a complex weaving process. Warp threads are woven into loops between two layers of fabric, and at the end of the process, these loops are cut in the middle. It's important to note that the fibres must not exceed 0.2 millimetres in length. If this pile height is exceeded, the material cannot be classified as velvet; instead, it belongs to velour fabrics.

Regarding care, velvet fabrics are not too demanding. If textiles from this fabric get dirty, they can be brushed with a soft brush or cleaned with a gentle hand wash. Another positive attribute of velvet is its high durability, as the heavy material makes the fabric very robust. Since 2016, the royal fabric, which was already worn in the Middle Ages, has been making a comeback on the runways. Whether as a jacket, bag, or headwear, velvet is a real trend material for both men and women in the fall.
