Everyone knows them: those inspiring summer and spring feelings that literally draw you outside into the sun. Walking, jogging, barbecuing, playing sport – everything is more fun in the bright sunshine. Unfortunately, many people forget to have the right sun protection. It can be very easy to protect yourself – especially with the right headgear.

Why is UV protection important?

The skin is far more sensitive to UV radiation than most people think. Even tanned skin does not offer long-term protection and caution is required, especially when it comes to children. In Central Europeans and all children, the skin’s own protection is often a maximum of just ten minutes. In addition to painful sunburns, possible consequences of sun exposure can include skin cancer, premature skin ageing and inflammation of the eyes. Many sun protection products only offer sufficient protection against UVB radiation, despite the fact that UVA radiation accounts for two-thirds of premature skin ageing and is the main cause of skin cancer.

How can I protect myself properly?

The majority of the population would surely mention sun cream. And that is absolutely correct. However, this is only reliable when used correctly:

Use the right SPF factor for your individual skin type
Apply a sufficient amount of the sun cream
Reapply the sun cream regularly, especially after swimming

Would you rather not always be dealing with this? Then it’s good that we have a promising alternative for you – textile sun protection. An obvious advantage is apparent immediately: Items of clothing only have to be “applied” once and retain their level of sun protection. However, this is not the same for all items of clothing and depends on the fabric and density of the material. Denser fabric means higher protection, which for textiles is indicated by their UPF UV protection factor.
