What is a Rembrandt hat? The Rembrandt hat is a broad and flat hat with its brim folded up at the sides. What makes this hat unique is the embellishment with various large feathers.

Although the painter Rembrandt van Rijn passed away in 1669, his artworks, paintings, and thus the aforementioned Rembrandt hat gained high recognition much later. When Rembrandt painted a portrait of his wife Saskia, he adorned her with a large, decorated, and striking hat that, many years later, became popularly known as the Rembrandt hat. The reason for using the hat was reportedly to achieve a stunning colour effect, which the talented painter aimed for. More than 200 years later, in the late 19th century, the Rembrandt hat became fashionable and highly coveted among women. This led to the elegant hat being increasingly spotted on the streets for a certain period.
