Denim

Denim

What is denim? The robust cotton fabric was invented in Nîmes and was first used there for textile production. Hence, the original term comes from French and is "Serge de Nîmes", which means "Fabric from Nîmes". However, the American short form "Denim" has become more prevalent, associated with the jeans style of modern casual wear.

The fabric gained fame primarily through the American inventor of jeans, Levi Strauss, who founded the company Levi Strauss & Co. (Levi's) in 1853. The company experienced significant growth from the 1870s onwards.

Various washing processes (e.g., stonewashed) give the characteristic blue tone an individual colouring. The dyeing is usually not uniform since a white thread is typically incorporated.

Today, you can find many headwear items made from fashionable denim fabric as trendy accessories.
